Key takeaways
- ARR = MRR × 12. With mixed plans: (monthly customers × monthly price + annual customers × annual price ÷ 12) × 12.
- Example: 200 customers at $29 a month plus 50 at $290 a year is $5,800 + $1,208 = $7,008 of MRR, or $84,100 of ARR.
- ARR bridge: $150,000 start + $40,000 new + $12,000 expansion − $3,000 contraction − $9,000 churn = $190,000, up 26.7%.
- Net revenue retention in that example is 100%: existing customers grew exactly as fast as they left.
ARR says how big the subscription is, not whether it is profitable. Hustlay shows MRR, ARR and costs together for each product.
Track MRR, ARR and profitHow it works
From plans to ARR, and from start to end
- MRR = monthly customers × monthly price + annual customers × annual price ÷ 12.
- ARR = MRR × 12.
- Ending ARR = starting ARR + new + expansion − contraction − churn.
- Net revenue retention = (start + expansion − contraction − churn) ÷ start. Gross retention leaves expansion out.
