Hustlay
Getting started

Create your first project

Projects are Hustlay's core building block. Every transaction belongs to exactly one project. Here's how to set up your first one.

A project in Hustlay is any distinct income stream. One freelance client is a project. An Etsy shop is a project. A newsletter is a project. Everything flows through projects — transactions, hours, profit, budgets.

Create a project

  1. Open Projects in the sidebar.
  2. Click + New project in the top right.
  3. Enter:
    • Name — e.g., "Consulting — Acme Co" or "Etsy shop".
    • Emoji — a one-character visual marker.
    • Project type — freelance, ecommerce, saas, employment, or other. Drives downstream features like MRR view or budget skipping.
    • Hourly rate (optional) — used for profit-per-hour calculations.
  4. Click Create. The project appears in your list immediately.

What each project type unlocks

  • freelance: default. Full time tracking, invoicing, profit-per-hour.
  • ecommerce: adds COGS (cost-of-goods-sold) to the P&L and platform-fee prompts.
  • saas: adds MRR / ARR view. Business tier feature.
  • employment: skips budgets (W-2 income is always "profitable").
  • other: minimal view. Use for rare sources (one-time prize winnings, lease income).
